Barbra Streisand BIO
Streisand hasn't done a national
tour since 1994, and in 2000 preformed what she said would be her last
public performance. Performing two-night stands in Los Angeles and New
York, ticket prices ranged from $150 to $2,500.
Streisand recently announced that she was returning to stage to raise
funds for various charitable organizations. According to a press
release, Organizers are hoping the tour will "provide millions of
dollars to organizations concerned with the environment, education and
women's health" through the Streisand Foundation. Streisand said in a
statement, "The increasingly urgent need for private citizen support to
combat dangerous climate change, along with education and health issues
was the prime reason I decided to tour again, This will allow me to
direct funds and awareness to causes that I care deeply about."
Over the course of her career, Streisand has Received up to 50 gold, 30
platinum and 13 multi-platinum albums. She is also the only artist to
have received an Oscar, Tony, Emmy Grammy, Golden Globe, Cable Ace and
Peabody Awards, as well as the American Film Institute's Life
Achievement Award. She is second in the all-time charts, ahead of The
Beatles and The Rolling Stones, exceeded only by Elvis.
The past year has been one of great success for the multi-talented
performer. Her album, “Guilty Pleasures,” quickly became her 50th Gold
Album. Also, the movie that returned her to the big screen “Meet The
Fockers,” became the first live-action comedy to exceed a half billion
dollars at the box-office. Warner Bros.’, in addition, released the DVD
box set of her first five television specials and has been a major
success with quintuple platinum sales. She is second in the all-time
charts, ahead of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, exceeded only by
Elvis.
It has been announced that the multi-platinum quartet, Il Divo will
take the stage with Barbra Streisand as her special guest for her highly
anticipated national tour set to kick off October 4th in Philadelphia at
the Wachovia Center. Il Divo stated: "We believe the experience of
working with Barbra Streisand -- a truly legendary artist -- will
forever shape the way we approach our own singing and performing. Her
voice and her music have profoundly influenced and inspired so many
artists, including Il Divo, and we are thrilled to be sharing the stage
with her.”
