New York Jets

In 1968 the Jets made it to Super Bowl III and were 18-point underdogs to the powerhouse Baltimore Colts. The Jets were not considered to have a chance, and they were looking arrogant, after Joe Namath guaranteed the Jets would win. The guarantee was thought of as a joke. Many old school traditional football fans still had not accepted the presence of the AFL, and were pulling for the Colts to shut the brash young Quarter Back's mouth. Meanwhile AFL fans and players were pulling for the Jets, as their shot at finally being accepted as a legitimate football league against this back drop Super Bowl II, finally brought mass attention to the Championship Game.  The Jets would go on to 16-7.

With Chad Pennington healthy at the start of the 2004 season the Jets would get off to a flying start winning their first 5 games. The Jets wouldn't keep up the pace losing 3 of 4 games as the Jets offense struggled. With Pennington suffering tendonitis, it didn't help anything. The Jets played back up QB Quincy Carter. Also playing an important part in the Jets playoff appearance was an improved defense which was led by Jonathan Vilma. The Jets would face the San Diego Chargers in the playoffs. Mataining a 17-7 lead into the 4th Quarter it appeared the Jets were going to come out on top and would win the game 20-17 on 28-yard FG by Doug Brien for their first road playoff win in 22 years. A week later against the Steelers the Jets would go into overtime. The Steelers would take advantage and go on to win the game with a 33-yard FG by Jeff Reed for a 20-17 win to advance to the AFC Championship.  On September 29, 2005, it was announced that Giants Stadium would be replaced with a $800 million stadium that is scheduled to be opened in 2010. The new stadium will be nearby the current stadium. The New York Jets were planning a move to a new domed stadium on Manhattan's West Side sometime near the year 2010. However, with the political defeat in June 2005 of the West Side Stadium plan, the Jets ended up agreeing to share the new Meadowlands stadium with the Giants. The stadium will be built by 2010.
